Default TC88 Lifter Choice, Did I choose Wrong....

Last spring I bought a 2003 FLHCI w/43,000 mikes on her. I was told that the Cam Chain tensioner's were not done so I deiced to do the Andrews TC96 swap. I used new Screaming Eagle adjustable push rods and Lifters. After about 1500 miles the engine seemed to get very noisy and we suspect that it may be the lifters. I am going to install ROCKOUT's before the riding season here in New England and I'm wondering if I should dump the SE Lifters as well. Thanks in advance for your time

If money is not a concern then yes. Put a set of S&S in there and be done. No more wondering "What if" or "When" they go out. If they do, chances are they are going to take a lot of other parts with them

While you've got it apart check those SE adjustable pushrods for straight. A
friend bought a set and only one of the four was straight. S&S makes quality
ones just be advised that theirs are 32 tpi.

Default u want s&s standards

they are about 135 bucks u don't want the ones with travel limiters. they have a spacer at the bottom that kind of turns it into a solid lifter . think u would get a limited amount of oil going to the top end with those , harely says use 2.5 turns. most of the engine builders recommend .140 which is 3 .5 turns after rod starts to load up when lash is out. be careful with those se lock nuts they split real easy I got rid of mine after one cracked, I used a 5/16 nut retapped to 3/8-24 thread, verify thread picth on your rods before trying to run a diff nut up it, a real 3/8 -24 nut may be pretty big to add to the weight of the rod. make sure u wait 20-30 after setting a rod that if spins indicating the lifter has bled down before u try and set the next lifter, if u try to rotate the motor over right away u could bend a valve. hope I have this pitch turn guide for se push rod correct. my set of se rods is 3/8-24 about 8 years old
turns trhd pitch amount extend
0.5 0.040 0.020
1 0.040 0.040
1.5 0.040 0.060
2 0.040 0.080
2.5 0.040 0.100
3 0.040 0.120
3.5 0.040 0.140

Every bit as good as S&S standards and about fitty bucks cheaper:

They're what I used in my build--#2313. Nice and quiet once all of them properly pumped up.

Comp Cams 850-1's in mine ('00 FLTRSEI( 95" and currently past 165,000 miles,) and they're about $16 a piece (Good enough for a Corvette, good enough for me.) 40,000 miles on this set thus far.
