There are suitable replacement secondhand engines on Ebay for under a thousand dollars. Bikes of the age of yours are getting to the point in their lives when there is a decent living for dealers to break them - with customers like you in mind!

 

Thanks for all of the replays guys really hate to see the bike go because it was my first bike. It was quick as well. Someone had built the motor in it would run right next to a 100 horse bike. But I believe I'll probably bite the bullet and get a new one.

 

Google HD Long Block program and check out the options for a replacement with a warranty. Buying a take off motor off EBay is a crap shoot. Don't know what you can buy for $5K in the used market but you could be buying someone else's problems in either case. Just a thought.
