Default another question for the new bike...quiet slip on?

is there a really quiet slip on muffler for a softail custom....the stock exhaust is on there now, but for some reason the one muffler is loud....the PO gave me some really big oem mufflers that are real quiet but the mounting points are different and the mounting bars don't match up anywhere on the bike....if there are none, I suppose I can make plates that can adapt the extra mufflers he gave me to the stock mounting bars...but id figure id ask

oh and does the same hold true to slip on mufflers...that later model softail ones will fit the 90?

when I search quiet slip on muffler...all touring threads come up!

The part numbers for the mufflers for a FX Evo Softail is 65380-90 (rear) and 65699-90 (front). Try doing a Google search for those numbers. I suspect there is a bunch of them around, as most everybody replaced them with something louder.

It was somewhat of a common practice to punch a hole the baffle with a steel rod. I wonder if that's what happened to the loud one. Could take a flashlight and look in the pipe for an intentional or rust hole.

Either way, does not matter, keep looking on ebay and craiglist. A set will pop up. YD

Chances are, one muffler has the baffled removed and the other is partially busted out.

Take both mufflers off and remove whatever baffles or remnants of them that remain.

Install a set of big city thunder baffles at the end of header pipe where it meets the mufflers.

Reinstall the mufflers.

Ride!

Loud pipes get you noticed. If the people your next to you can't hear the bike and they have dogs on their laps and texting they may not see you when they take a right turn from a left lane or some other supid move. Let them hear you. There is a long way from let them hear you and loud. LEO understand unless you are rediculos.

Check out Revzilla. Here's a nice video for HD touring slip-ons with an EPA (quiet) option available.

Those are mufflers and brackets from a 2 into 2 accessory system that Harley offered. They require a special "crossover" header set, so there would be one muffler on each side of the bike.
