1993 FLHTP Speedometer Issue
Howdy all!
I got some time last night to do a short shakedown run in my backyard. Per the trip meter, I got 2/10 of a mile. I got her up to 2nd gear which is probably around 15-20 mph.
I found it strange that the trip meter would work, but not the speedometer. If I remember correctly, both receive their input from the speedometer cable. If that's the case, I might have something wrong internally with the speedometer.
Anyone have a similar experience? Any ideas?
I plan on checking the cable to see that it's connected and not broken. I know the battery is weak, but I don't think that'll have any impact on a cable driven speedometer.
Thanks in advance!

That's what I'm afraid of...trying to find a FLHTP speedo will probably be difficult. I might try to find a similar speedo and can the parts internally to keep the original face.
This just got me thinking. I need to disassemble the speedo to see if the needle is properly seated on the needle shaft.

Yeah, I need to start looking for swap meets near the Houston area. Ebay has a few units, but not police faces (I can swap them out). They all range in the $250-$300...even the crappy ones that have been severely damaged!
I've taken that speedo out of the case to fix the turn and oil indicator light filters (popped out, so I glued it back in). Getting to the Speedo isn't too bad...and I've taken others apart before...I just need to get to it and figure out which part is bad...and if I can find a replacement.
Thanks for the comments/suggestions.

I used to have a link for a guy who did speedometer repairs on bikes and cars. I bet he could rebuild/fix yours. Google speedometer repair if you're interested. I believe this particular guy was recommended pretty highly by the guy who posted the link (another motorcycle forum). I think the link I have is on my work computer so if you want it, post something up and i'll see if I can find it on monday.
