If it does turn out to be the solenoid, in order to buy a little time, you can take the solenoid apart and clean off the copper washer inside of it with a stiff wire brush.

Just make sure you buy a new solenoid asap.
The new starter the OP got should have come with a new solenoid.
2000 FXDL. solenoid clicks, will not start... new starter and battery
"jump" the solenoid with a piece of wire...big wire to little wire...if it works the problem is the control wiring on the bike...if it doesn't it is still a starter/battery problem.

My current project had this issue, so the OP put one of them push button things on the solenoid to bypass the electrics of starting. Turns out the little connector on top of the solenoid, the one where the green wire goes, was spun around too many times and broke the internal wire. So last night I soldered an extension on the wire and re-soldered it to the connector inside the solenoid. Works great now.
