Question What kind of Pistons, rings and gasket set should I buy?

I'm doing a rebuild on my 94 FXDWG,my goal is reliability and comfort for long days on the highway. I'm doing an andrews ev27 cam, new lifters, adj pushrods, inner cam bearing replacement, repainting the heads and cylinders, getting a valve job done, etc. I had damaged the piston heads in a previous build attempt so I'm looking at options for new ones, there are a ton out there. I'm going to keep it low compression, just going to give it a small nudge with .030 head gaskets instead of .045. What's a good stock replacement piston and rings? Where are you guys buying your gasket sets from?

And where are you guys buying seats from?? I'm having a hell of a time trying to find a manufacturer to make a cushy seat for my bike. LePera said they would do it but they have a reputation for pretty hard seats.

Thanks
Scott

For seats, try: Mustang.

I can spend YOUR money! as I have spent all mine ..LOL
Axtell 85 inch drop-ins. Angel Tops.
If you truly want great performance and reliability,
buy the angle tops From Axtell.
He will need your heads for the combustion chamber to reshape and a deck.
Cast iron will not leak and ring seal is much better.
It is a win situation for the EVO
IF doing the heads do them for a bigger cam . (not a lil bolt bolt in)
DM 530 or something like it.
Pulls like a freight train.
You will be over a 100 HP and reliable.
Daytona TT
Double plug
You will be over a 100 HP and reliable.

I used Wiseco pistons when I did mine. No other reason than I used them back in my 2 cycle dirt bike days and never had a issue with them. Cosmetic Gaskets because of the advice from this forum. I think I got them from Amazon, not sure as it has been about 4 years ago now. Dennis Kirk, JP Cycle and many others carry cosmetic gaskets. I usually find the part number of the set I need and then google that number for the best price from a reliable seller.

If your gonna do pistons, first see what you need to bore your cylinders. A .010" cut would definitely clean them up if there not damaged... Also you might as well go with a 10:1 piston and Use Wiseco part#4724P1 front/4725P1 rear, have who ever is boring the cylinders fit the pistons and rings for you. This makes assembly much easier and most shop include it if you buy the pistons from them...Your actual compression ratio will depend on your combustion chamber size. Most Evo cylinder heads come in around 85cc. With a Cometic .030" top end kit it'll put you around 9.7:1 and if your heads are 83cc then it'll be up to about 9.9:1which is not out of reach for the EV27 cam... This is a very reliable build that's not crazy and will make very good power. At least a 35% increase and your gas mileage should still be in the 42 mpg range with a good 2-1 and tune... You won't regret it and will be smiling a lot. Good luck....

At that power level, I'd recommend a Carlini Torque arm to reduce stress on your primary case. Evo Dynas are suseptable to "folding" when power is increased enough.
