What type are you looking at? 1 or 2 piece. There are 3 types of 2 piece. One just threads into the existing hole and the smaller popup goes into it. These have a tendency to leak. The other two are weld in (which you stated you don't want) and bolt in. The bolt or screw in from what I've seen are pretty nice the outer collar has a gasket and self tapping screws. This keeps the outer collar from moving. Vibration and fillups can loosen the 1st one I described thus leaking. The weld ins and bolt ins won't. The one piece is just your old style cap that pops up. From what I've seen and what you describe I'd go with the self tapper.

I have the Landmark Renegade style gas caps on my bike. They aren't popups but they are really low profile. They have the tank protector that screws in and then the cap goes into them. They have never leaked. Not a bad setup, but they are kind of pricey. $100 for the left and right side.

i just looked those up 95yj, i like them, quick question, do you need the key they come with to open them or is that just for the tank protector? also im assuming one is vented right? it doesnt say on the page i was looking at them on, and one last question do they rattle? when i bought my fatboy the last owner put low profile cheapies on it and they rattle really loud!! Bama, i was looking at the ones that just screw into the stock tank then you push down and twist the center and it stays down. i dont think im gonna get them because even the reviews on the companies page are bad, alot of people claiming they leak, and since i just painted the bike 2 weeks ago i dont wanna risk it....

The key is only for installing and removing the tank protector. The right hand threaded one is vented. The left hand threaded is not. Nothing rattles at all. It's a well made product. The tank protectors are really nice for the paint. When at the pump station, the nozzle hits the tank protectors not your tank.

Those are nice 95yj. I just looked at them myself. I have a drag specalties tank though got a weird style of cap thread. Like an old chevy truck. may have to switch to your style one day.
