I recently switched to a tank with the aircraft style bungs. I bought a set of chrome caps off ebay, they were like 30 bucks, one is vented, the other isn't. I noticed that immediately after riding, the right cap, the vented one, makes a slight whistling sound as the vapors vent. I noticed after a short ride, gas had leaked from same cap, spilling fuel on the tank. I guess I should maybe replace the o-rings as they look kind of cheap. I cant help to think these caps are low quality and should replace them with a better set. Does anyone have a fix for this or could recommend a better set of aircraft style caps? Thanks
They have probly dried out from the gasohol that alot of gas stations are useing. It makes the rubber britle they might be cheap to but all rubber will do this only after using gasohol a few times. When you replace them make sure you get something that is ethanol approved or start looking at your local gas station for the little sign the say may contain up to 10% ethanol and even if your gas station doesnt have the sign doesnt mean there not using it depending on laws in your stat, try and find somewhere that still uses gasoline and not gasohol...This stuff is bad but its what we are coming to..
It drys out any rubber that is not made for it..Hope this help..
I run the same type caps......
PS
once they dry out there dune but i put a little oil on my finger and rub it around mine on my oil changes not alot just finger tip..
