Curous why you ask? I have the same model and year and have had an issue with the connector on the stator to regulator connector being loose. I had to tighten up the connections, and also got a retainer bracket from ebay to stop it from happening again. Here's a pic and link of that.

I eliminate the plugs on these older style of regulators and wire them directly to the stator with a connector on the outside of the case. I remove the rubber plug from the stator and solder longer wires to it, heat shrink 'em, and run them thru the case. I fill the plug hole with silicone to seal it and add the connectors on the outside. Much better connections that don't vibrate loose.

How do you make the silicone "filler" look good in that plug hole? And how does that silicone hold up? I assume you use something like black rtv adhesive sealant?
