Looking at replacing the exhaust on my bike to a set of true duals. My question is, is their any one that makes a set for an 85 flthc? If not can I install a set from 99 and back on the bike?

You might have to drill and tap a hole on the frame for a bracket. This thread comes up every few months. Search for it but not using the site's search tool. Google a term with hdforums in the search box.
Bon chance,

I assume you have an FLHTC? The drilling holes in the frame applys to softails..not touring bikes. The pipes on touring bikes mount to the trans, starter, and saddle bag mounts...all of which are different on an 85 than newer bikes...so you will be making/modifying brackets to make the newer pipes work.

Up to 2007 pipes should work fine. I have a 2007 FLHT-something on on my bike. Just get the complete exhaust, all the brackets and covers.

Yea I've got a flthc. It's got a set of V&H slip ons on it with the stock head pipes. I picked up a set of porkster slip ons at a swap meet I'm thinking about putting on.

A word of caution here. I installed a set of new true-dual pipes for a later bike on my '90 FLHS, but the rear pipe never properly cleared the top of the primary, for some reason, so I eventually changed them. In all other ways pipe sets up to 2008 will fit, in fact my 2-into-1 are '08 pipes. Some '07 bikes and '08 models use O2 sensors, so I have blanks in the holes.

Your '85 pipes, if you still have stock ones, have flared ends where the mufflers fit and you won't find direct replacements for them. The only difference with later pipes is that they have plain ends for slip-ons.
