Good that it was an easy and cheap fix. Of course, if it fouls again in short order, there's a whole new selection of things to look at.

Yes indeed, I was in a great mood the rest of the evening. Still gonna change out the petcock. For those interested, HD stocks an updated "new and improved"version of the original factory petcock ( looks identical). I haven't purchased it yet, but I physically checked it out at the parts counter, $90. The action is very nice and has significant stopping points...could be ball bearing Idk. Not so much the small savings vs a pingle etc, I just like this bike to look as original as possible. Thanks again for everyones help!

Plugs need to be replaced at 5,000mi. regardless of brand or type. So by the Champion RN12YC from preferred auto dealer for half the price of HD plugs. Gap .038 to .040.

Seems like extreme overkill, but won't hurt anything. I think the manual says 10k, and that's probably too much. Modern cars recommend 100k. I suspect our bikes would do the same. I change mine when they don't spark.

Consider new plug wires while you're at it. I thought the wires on my 93 FXR were ok until a stoplight gran prix an end broke off ran on one cylinder. Standard HD type are fine.

You said this has been doing it quite a while, and got worse. now you know the symptoms.
You've got 15k on these, change them at 10-12K next time.
