Default New HD Vin sticker?

I'm having the frame on my FXR2 powder coated being the money pit I've made it. I was wondering if it's possible to get a new HD VIN sticker that's on the down tube? I know I don't need it but I'd like to have it.

Your local dealer should be able to tell you that.

Make sure the power coater doesn't make the frame VIN unreadable...was looking at a nice bike for sale on Ebay...owner had shaved the power coating off with a knife...to keep the police from towing it.

I have read you cannot get new VIN stickers...but I have never tried.

The MoCo shipped us one in '87 to get the Sportster across the border from Canada. You might call the factory up and ask. It might also be known as "the DoT Sticker."

Even if you can't get a replacement from Harley Davidson, you might be able to get a graphics shop to reproduce it.

I'd opt for not having a sticker and just going with the VIN stamped into the frame in lieu of reproducing a VIN/Manufacturer's sticker. That's got tow truck written all over it.

The VIN stamped on the frame is the vehicle's official marking. The sticker in question just says "conforms to 19xx DoT specifications..." and has the VIN and some other info. It is located on the down tube. It is not for vehicle ID purposes. I assume the OP wants one to be "original."

Some manufacturers way back (Italian brands like Laverda IIRC) used to highlight the frame number in white paint, after painting the frame black.

Tell your powder coater to cover the stamped vin numbers on the frame with tape, shoot the entire frame till he is happy with the coverage, then pull the tape off the vin, and give that spot a light dusting. Yours numbers will be readable and the metal will be protected. It will just be thinner coverage in that spot only. YD
