A caliper is a caliper. Put the bleeder above the line in so gravity aids in keeping bubbles near the top. Easier to bleed. If it has a rubber boot over it, it's your bleeder.

That's what I thought - the bleeder is in the top hole now, and it makes a lot more sense that way. I'm not sure why I'd reverse it.

My issue is figuring out what to do with the brake line hole - looks too small for a banjo bolt and the fitting that's there doesn't seem right.

What brake line is it? You can go directly to what's there if you have a line with the ends for it(like a braided steel one with screw on ends). Or use a banjo bolt for a 2000 up caliper I'm guessing.

Also that caliper, was it running dot 4 or 5?

It looks like 2000 was the first year of the 4 piston caliper on the rear for softails.

The fluid that was in there was yellow, so definitely not DOT 5 - not sure if it was 3 or 4.

The brake line has a threaded end on it that connects to the fitting in the photo that I posted originally. My concern is it sealing to the caliper.

14GuineaPig - thanks for that. This clears up at least one thing - the bleeder screw is in the correct hole. Strangely the diagram does not show a part for the brake line connection.

Teflon tape that (blank). If you're running dot 5, I personally would do a caliper rebuild and clean it out good.

Dot 5 starts purple then goes to yellow then clear.

The best way to tell is put some on your fingers and rub them together.
If your fingers slide against each other easily then it's dot 5 if they don't it isn't.

Unless the swing arm has been modified...that caliper won't work on an 84.

I think I have an original 84 set up if you need it..they are hard to come by...only made in 84-85.

*Edit* I looked at the pics in your other post....it appears your swing arm has been modified.
