baker reverse
As far as I know, the splined tranny shaft on big twins didn't come out from the factory until 1990, and then the length changed on 1991 and beyond, so that makes 1990 a one year off. 1989-and back, there were only key-way shafts.
Do you know if you have a splined shaft? Easiest way to tell is to look in the primary, and maybe you don't have to pull the clutch pack to do it, but you probably will have to.

Made me go look.
I see recent posts from his account, but mostly throwaway comments in the TOAK. Been a couple of days since he answered a technical question. There was also a gap from May 20 to July 15 where he didn't post at all.
He's not listed on the Baker staff page anymore either.

A 1990 mainshaft can be used with `85-`90 gearsets only, with the diaphragm clutch, not the shovelhead type clutch.
OP: I think you need to get used to pushing the bike backwards...
The 1990 shaft is the same length as `91 and later, the difference is in the outside diameter when it is supported by the needle bearings that are inside the main drive gear.
