Anyone tried to clean out the brown gunk in the cam sensor and refill with a better and heat stable epoxi?
If the oem cam sensor works and it is just the baked brown gunk that is giving up due to age and heat, then I would think the part could be salvaged and reused after getting the failing silicon (or what ever material they used) out and refill it with epoxi.
Or am I hoping for miracles?

Just replace it. No sense messing around with it. You would be putting good money after bad...Replacements are about 45 bucks on amazon.
The replacement part number and brand has been posted here multiple times, sorry I don't have the part number handy. It really only takes about an hour to remove and replace.
The replacement part is actually better than the original, and by the time you are done messing around with that original part, you could have the new part installed and be done, and reliability of that old original senor will not be in question. Peace of mind. Just my opinion.
Standard motor products makes a good replacement depending on your year bike... 96 up is the MC-SPA3 Amazon has it.. As YD said just replace it.... The one thing I did do to prevent that was I took the aluminum center sticker out of a Chevy truck hubcap and I made it into a cover.. I think all that metal and gaskets down there on the cone keeps in too much of the heat.. Mine's actually able to breathe better now, less heat..

I agree, better ventilation/cooling of that component would be a big plus. It's in a pretty hostile environment (heat). I think my front exhaust pipe is within 1 inch of that nose cone and runs along the full width of it. Lots of radiant heat, not to mention normal engine heat.
