I can speak about my 89 FXRS. A freind of mine cut out the welds and pulled out his whole baffle and it sounded like crap. I took a piece of rebar and punched it through and I like the sound.

Don't forget ot rejet.

how many baffles did you punch thru? should I be looking for carb re-jetting for a leaner or richer mix?

I don't remember how many tabs I went through, one or two, all that the rebar did was bend the tabs back and open a clear passage through.

I also don't remember if it was leaner or richer after the tabs were bent. I think richer.

I had punched out stock mufflers on my 89 for some time; louder than stock but not overly loud. Just punch through until you can see straight through.
