Hi, i have a 1984 fxrdg and was wondering what 3 stars on the case are for. They are on the right side case. The stars are across from the serial number.

 

If I remember, earlier years had the VIN stamped there, so they put stars on it so that no one would simply stamp new numbers on it right there. At least, that's what we all thought back then. And the people stamping new numbers would just hit the area with a TIG , smooth it all out and then stamp whatever they wanted anyway.

 

Ah yes the good old days!
