Need to quiet the exhaust system
I bought a 96 FLSTC Heritage Softail with Samson true duals and straight pipes from the headers a couple years ago. No baffles when I bought her so I installed a pair that helped, but still too loud. I checked Samson's web site and think that S-224 mufflers will work. Anyone have experience getting the throaty low sound without the high crack that causes neighbors to throw stuff at you when you drive past?

Small diameter mufflers are not likely to take much sting out of the noise IMHO. If you can persuade yourself to use a larger muffler you might be more successful. I have used Samson TD pipes in the past wirh S&S SPO mufflers, which worked very well. From what I can make out Samson are renowned for producing noisy systems, so bear that in mind!

Personally I like a loud exhaust. It has saved me a couple of times when people in cages started to come into my lane. I just blip the throttle and then they realize someone is there and they return to the lane they started out in.
In my case load pipes really has saved lives.
If people are mad at you for the loud pipes at least they know you are there.
