So, the bike starts running like a$$....
Out of the clear blue.
If you guys remember, I recently installed new drag pipes. I spent quite a while getting everything perfect. And it was. Until today. Its a nice sunny day, I had stuff to do, so I hoped on the bike and took off. Right away I could feel something was wrong. I probably only noticed because of all the time I have been spending on her recently. So never the less, I start checking and re tightening the pipes. They were of course perfect. After like half an hour of fiddling with crap, I pull the air cleaner and this is what I found. I am pretty much screwed at this point....damnit.
So, what do I do here? My first inclination is to find the best price I can on ebay for a brand spankin" new S&S Super E kit. But now I thought I better get some opinions. Do I get a brand new carb? Do I search for a used CV on ebay and rebuild that? Do I say screw it and go the simple route and put my old Super B on, that I have sitting in the garage? At least I know that carb is perfect. Whats the best game plan for a trashed CV?

No, no. I was not very clear. Sorry. Thats the stock CV that came on the bike. How it happened was most likely my Shovelhead mentality which consists of "over tighten everything or it will fall off". So I probably over tightened the air cleaner last week when I was checking to make sure there were no leaks. It was probably just me being stupid. I am debating what to do to fix it. Do I buy a new S&S carb, a new Keihin CV carb, or a used CV to rebuild?

Try to find an unmolested CV on E-Bay, etc the newer the better. Then put the sporty needle in it, set the air bleed at 2 turns out and ride it. After you've rode it a bit check the plugs. You want a nice clean white to just a shade of tan, If it is blistered or you are pinging then you are lean. With todays gas if the electrode is brown you are rich and wasting fuel. The CV wil work as well or better thanthe rest up to around 100+ HP for less money. Do not drill the slide or change the spring on basically stock street bikes unless you've made some drastic gear changes. Hope this helps.

Thanks, MIA,
This is the one I am looking at if I buy a new CV carb other than an S&S.
