How many miles ?
Purchased a 1990 FLT Police with 115000 klms. cause i always wanted a Harley and now im pushing 60 years old and have little or no patience or body to screw around anymore.
Newby from Honda Big Wings that go forever and not sure about the longevity of the Harley EVO V Twin.
The 1500 Wings get there legs at about 100.000 klms.?
What say you H.D. boys .?
Are my roller cam lifters or cam bearings going to pooch or am i just freaking out from information overload .?
Thanks to all in advance.

You only need to give it the recommended parts like lifters as is recommended and do the regular maintenance and that bike will treat you like a king. Myself and my wife, her on her 89 heritage did a two day full riding doing 70-75 mph all day long and they both purrred like kittens. And I got asked by a Twinkie owners whAt the heck was done to the motors, he couldn't beleive the pull they had on the passes on steep grades, that was of course when he finally caught us at a stop.

machinehed, welcome aboard. Don't overthink this there's a good chap. As you probably know from 'Wing websites there is a lot of internet folklore out there. Best to ignore it. If your bike is running fine, ride on. With that mileage any of the things that are said to go wrong with bikes from that era will have been fixed long ago. If you have any serious trips planned, either service it yourself, or visit an indy for an expert check over.
173,000 miles on mine, and she purrs like a kitten. Motor rebuilt in '02 as a result of lifter failure. 85,000 on current motor. Now I change lifters every 40,000 miles just to be safe. It's a simple job that even I can do myself (once I installed adjustable pushrods).

Thanks to all for the replies .
Im waiting for my gold plated official Harley manual and have been using a Clymer / Haynes type to get by . Have cleaned up all the POs wiring mess and changed all the fluids etc. etc.
Question... re; " recommended parts " such as lifters at 50000 etc.?
I understand that the Evo lifters and cam brgs. can be " mileage sensitive " for lack of a better description . Is there a particular noise i should look for or some procedure such as an oil pres. test or vacume meter test to see what shape these components are in .?
