Default Running lights?

Just picked up a '95 Fatboy, and its front indicators come permanently on with the general lights. They still flash as normal when switched on....

Is this something that would be easy to change back? Can't quite get my head round how this works...and with the front only?

Fronts are a dual filament and rear is a single. You would have to dis assemble the front signal and replace the contact plate to accept a single filament bulb or cut the running light wire to the signals.

In case you don't realize it, that's how they're suppose to work. But if you want them to just flash as turn signals, you can just clip that one wire (like soft 02 mentioned) inside of both front signal housings. If you do so, be sure to cap the clipped hot lead so it don't short-out on the housing.

Thanx for those comments......I collect the bike tommorrow, so can check that out.

You say that is standard..........but not in the UK. I'm not sure it's legal here.

Here in the states, it's considered a safety feature. With running lights, approaching traffic can tell you're a motorcycle, and not a car with one dead headlight. I forget how many years that's been standard on Harleys.

Yes, I found out that in the UK they are illegal.
Any forward facing running lights must be white.

My friendly MOT tester just ground off the running light contact on the bulb....so if i still wanted to run them i could just change the bulb.

my uncles and father have been doin that since like the late 70's or 80's, cant member the years when front runners were meant to be on but they would file off the solder on 1 of the 2 prong bulbs, this way they can change out the bulbs when the locals use to hassle em for codes...lol....old skool trikks

We have a clash of cultures here! Your bike is presumably a US import? The simplest thing to do is trace the wiring, with care, and disable the constant running wires. It does mean you will have to use twin filament bulbs, but that is a darned sight easier and cheaper than changing parts in the lamps.

While they are a requirement in the USA there is no merit using them over here. If you don't already have them you have an excuse to fit a set of passing lamps, to use as extra lights, or indeed any of a number of other forward facing custom lighting sets. You can just see my oval fogs on my engine bar blow.

No, it's not a USA import, but was customised by Warrs in about 2002. They must have added them as a feature.

To be honest, I prefer just the single headlamp and no running lights.
May even lose the indicators......
