Default Electrical help

When I use my turn signals on my 95 flhr, my dash shorts out (mph, digital miles, display back light) not a big deal cause after turning everything comes back on after signal cancels. I hate electrical and Im no good at tracking it down, as always thanks for any suggestions.

Shes old enough to have wiring abrasion shorts , bad connectors etc. etc.
Try reproducing the problem while its on the stand and then do a wiggle test on the wiring and connectors to find the trouble spot.

Do the turn signals work? If so, might be a weak breaker. If not, you have a short in the turn signal line somewhere.

Start with the path to ground for the dash. That's the common item that is failing. I'd bet the dash is seeking a ground through something in the turn signal circuit.

Yep, check the grounds, clean them and refasten them. Your speedo, etc. needs power and a ground to work, the only other common denominator is the W/GN wire that sends signals from the reed switch to the turn signals perhaps there could be a short in that.

It must be magic. Before I did I turned everything on and it all worked. Took it for a ride to warm things up, the heat out here does cause electrical issues. Nothing, it all worked. Not being a believer in the fixed it self theory, I took the dash off moved things around checked the ground all seemed well. Put it back together and it still worked. I'm riding to Tucson tomorrow night so, when things do go out I'm sure it will be on that trip.

Just for insurance.. maybe pull the neck ground off and clean it real good and put it back on tight. New screw if you have too. I just tapped the frame 1/4-20 and put a bolt in mine.

As an old wiring guy i can agree that sometimes " magic " happens with vehicle wiring . The problem with that is ... the original trouble will reoccure later .
The best way to find / solve a intermittent wiring problem is to go through your wiring system and clean / lube all connectors and wiggle test the wires for opens in the circuit. Pay special attension to the harness at the forks pivot point where the wires are bent each time you turn .
Body grounds are usually ok. if they are tight with no rust accumulation.
Check for good connections at ground busses.
