Painting Rinehart Endcaps

Painting Rinehart Endcaps
I’m going to try to repaint my Rinehart endcaps. They have faded to a dull brown/purple, combined with old chrome, make my exhaust look, well, old.
I took them off and ran them in the dishwasher samdnit cleaned them up pretty good. I took some wood glue, and pushed it into the etched logo, but they didn’t work very well. When I tried to sand the glue tgst was on the painted surface off, the etching glue cane out as well.
I have some Satin gloss, hi-temp coating paint, and am just gonna spray bomb them. Anything will look better then the scratched up brown.
I guess ill I’ll just try to use an exacto knife to scrape the logo when it’s dry.
Does Anyonw have any experience with this? Any pointers or tips?
ill soon try to get some pictures to show how it turns out in case other want to try it.

Okay. So I figured a better way to fill the engravings. After I media blasted the caps, I took a lighter and held the tip of the flame under the engraved portion. This caused soot residue to cover it all and inside the engravings. Then I lightly sanded with 600 grit paper.
After i I paint I should be able to wash the door residue out with water.
Old, faded endcaps need refinished.
After blasting, I used a lighter and put the tip of the flame over the engravings.
Then I hit it with fine 600 grit paper. The paint should o my stick to the outside.

Rinehart endcaps painted with High heat coating and with engraving scratched out with exacto knife. Still holding up after 100 miles.
Here they are. Turned out well and still look pretty good I think.
I reccomend it. Better than $130 for a new pair.

The whole soot from the lighter idea didn’t pan out. After I painted them I had to scratch out the Rinehart logo.
I used Rustoleum High Heat Coating.
If anyone goes this route it’s good to know that this stuff has a long cure time. It may look dry, but if you put two or three coats on it, it takes about 7 hours to cure where you can touch it. I tried to take them off the ha gets after three hours and put fingerprints in them and had to re sandblast and start over. So my advice is to coat it four or five times when it looks dry, but let them hang overnight at the least.
But tip ‘o the hat to rustoleum high heat coating. I’m happy with it.
