I have a sportster with SE exhaust. I find that they are too loud for my taste. Is there something I can do to quieten them down or do I have to buy a new set of pipes?

 

The next step down from SE exhaust will be stock. People can not give them away.

 

Congratulations on your first post; welcome to the forum. Maybe some one will trade you some stock exhaust mufflers for your SE exhaust mufflers.

Would be nice to know year & model of your Sportster along with any modifications. Do you have a EFI tuner or carb setup and do you have a SE Air filter on it.

Alternatively you can purchase some ear plugs and wear those.

Yeah that.
The newer SE slip ons aren't much louder than stock and suck almost as much performance wise.

 

Did you get them from previous owner? He could have gutted them out.
