I've had this 1993 Electra Glide for a while now and have decided it is now time to make it sound more how I'd like it to sound. I have the lip type mufflers of old, and they don't have any markings on them except for some numbers that when I put them into google pulled up eBay listings of Kerker branded exhausts.
I took them apart to see if the baffles needed to be repacked because I would like them to be a little quieter - but to my surprise when I got the tips off I found that somebody had cut out the entire baffle except the cone. Well, that would explain why they are as loud as they are.
I like the look of the fishtail-esque tips. My research lead me to believe these might be similar to screaming eagle type?
The only part of the baffle left was the cone, because that's how the tip is screwed on. Clearly it was cut because it has a wavy edge on the larger end.
I have no experience with Harley exhausts so I'm at a loss as to what exactly I should be looking for to put a baffle back into these pipes. I'm mostly looking to quiet it down a little and take the tinny sound out of the acceleration. Performance really isn't much of a concern but of course I'm not looking to cork these up too bad.
Will I be primarily be looking at finding used baffles or do they make newer universal ones? I'm also trying to avoid cutting the lip off and running different mufflers. I dig the way these look and would prefer to try to make these work better.
Look into Thunder Torque Inserts from DK Customs. They are basically lollipops and will add a deeper tone. When I got mine they were about $35 and even if they've gone up a little they are a good bang for the buck. You can fab these pretty easily but I decided to buy them from a very good vendor on this site.
