Default Fitting new Rinehart headers to Rinehart Slipons

About a year after I bought my SG, I purchased a pair of Rinehart slipons (500-0106) for her. The fit nice and I liked the sound. This was about 5 years ago. Now I wanted to replace the stock headers so I purchased the Rinehart headers (100-0452) and by all accounts are supposed to fit the exhaust that I bought.

Before I take to much off the bike, i figured it would be a good idea to dry-fit the slipons. My first thought was to try the left side slipon cause that one is the smaller one. To my disbelief, the muffler inlet was the same diameter as the crossover outlet. Looking at the slipon, it appeared to be pinched from the clamp. I checked the diameter of the stock crossover and compared it to the one in the kit. The stock slipon was 1 11/16 and the one from the kit was 1 3/4. Because the slipon inlet is pinched, I am going to "assume" that I can open it up so that it will fit over the crossover. Ok, I tried that. Not as easy as it sounds. Still just short of getting enough opening to get the crossover to fit and found that the clamp doesn't get large enough to go over the slipon inlet.

After opening the inlet.

Now I figure I'll put the clamp on the slipon as far as it will go first. Try again to open the inlet enough to take the crossover and then try to get the clamp in place. Not sure what else I can do and thought I would ask you folks if there is a better way.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
