Default My new build for '05 Ultra...

This winter I'm planning to update the power on my '05 Ultra. Right now it is Stage 1 only. What do you think of this Bill of Materials?:

1. 16546-99 3.875" Cylinder Kit 95 ci
2. 16925-02B CNC Cylinder Head Kit
3. 1800-0670 BUB7 True Duals
4. 18400-03 Perfect Fit Pushrods
5. 22439-00A SE HTCC Piston Kit 95 ci
6. 25155-00 SE 257 Cam Kit
7. 32107-01H EFI Race Tuner Kit
8. 32076-04 Compression Release Kit

This should give me about 105 HP.

You can do it for a lot less by getting away from Harley parts and using your existing jugs and heads. Either a package deal from some of the reputable folks mentioned on this board, or you can piecemeal if you do your homework. Stay with stock ported heads and take it easy on the compression with that bagger. 100/100 should be no sweat.

Sorry, but i dont want to see you waste your money here. That will will haul *** for sure...Buttttttt only after like about 3800 rpms..You put together a topend runner there and wont be happey with a full dresser. Those heads with that cam and xhaust will not give you what you want. If you would like other options, let us know how you ride and what you want out of the build...

Sorry to be blunt but dont want to see you have to re-do it 2 months later...

Just completed a build on my uncles 06 springer with the htcc non ported heads with the htcc pistons and 257 cams it made 88hp and 98 torq he was really disapointed. He"s going to have them ported and cc"d but i dont exspect him to gain 6 or 7 from that.Im working on my other uncles bike right now and he"s doing se 9.6.1 forged pistons,251 cams john hildreth out of alabama is doing his heads for 10.1 compression, just waiting for the heads to get back at this point to finish up build so I will post results after break in and dyno tune. Then once this one is out of my garage i will be starting my head quarters sport touring build on my 06 deluxe and will post results when finished. At this point i think biggest bang for buck is stock heads ported not the se heads.

Doesn't look good at all to me..............S/E parts just are not going to perform well at all compared to aftermarket parts.

True Duals are not very good performance pipes..........they are a looks/sound pipe. If you want performance, get a good 2-1 system like a Fatcat system...........that will make any build better.

I would go with boring your stock cylinders, put in the new 95" pistons, send out your heads for port work, bump the compression to 10-1, and go with a Woods TW-6 cam set.

There are many many head porters...............depending on your budget will tell where you could go to. Give Scott a call at Hillside Cycle in NY, he will take care of you for many parts that I listed. Or give Bean a call at Big Boyz Cycles and he can do your head work also.

Just remember...............HP doesn't mean crap, it's Torque that you want. And that torque has to be in the right areas that you are going to use for normal riding.

It is definitely a higher rpm/hp build rather than a build for maximum torque, which is what you really need on a bagger. Other have suggested going with aftermarket builds, and that is good advice. HeadQuarters, GMR, Hillside, etc all have very good reliable kits. If you want to stay with mostly HD parts, try this combo:
HTCC Heads (not the CNC Heads)
HTCC Pistons
Woods Performance TW5G cams (the TW6 is also a great cam but the 5 will give you more low end torque.)
Bore your existing jugs, saving about $100
Adjustable Pushrods
If you really like the Bub Exhaust go for it, but a 2 into 1 will give you more low end torque.

I did this exact build on my 03 RKC and with Rinehart true duals, 102hp, 112tq. Pulled like a mother and was very civilized, got about 43 mpg.

I get a lot of mail by people who have gone this route and are dissatisfied with the outcome and are wanting more. After they get what we have to offer them they are satisfied because the bike runs so much quicker, cooler, and stronger.

If it was me I would get with Hillside, Kingofcubes or Head Quarters and get one of their packages and use a good 2:1 exhaust instead of the true duals. Your going to get more bang for your buck and be much happier with the results, lifes to short to use substandard parts.

As others have said.... you can get far better results from aftermarket providers. I know dalton had decent results with the HTCC stuff on his RK, but that is really more of an exception than the rule. More often than not, the chambers on those heads are just too big for 95" motors and due to their unique (read: funky) piston design, setting proper squish is quite challenging. It's cinch, most dealerships just bolt'm together & give'm back.

Make yourself a list of things you's like to accomplish, call a couple reputable vendors (Head-Quaters, GMR, R&R, etc), communicate your goals and see what they have to offer and how they can help you reach your goals. Also... Take notes during your calls! Review their responses and make a decision on what is best for YOU, not necessarily what other think you should do or buy.
