Hi
I doubt too, that it was synth oil. Just changed out my factory HD cam in my 2007 Fatboy, with 4,800 miles ran HD 20-50 changed 1 k service , at 2,350, and at 3,500 with scavenger all oil was HD 20-50, my factory cams were showing wear >>>><<<<<

I have no clue and would not have known if my indy wrench did not bring it to my attention. Will post pics asap .....

What gives with the MoCo stuff? New cams are Redshift .575 cams. Will be running Amsoil now.

I question if this was an oil problem also. One question that I wish I would have asked the tech at Crane was this, if GM had that problem when they went to synthetic and they modified the lobe surface smoothnessfor oil compatibility, why don't HD and HD aftermarket cams have that same mod done?

I am workingwithCrane and a few other cammanufacturers for a custom grind but I will beselecting a cam with the very minimumliftthat I think I can live with. Performance and longevityis always a compromise. My problem is that I'm addicted to HP, think I need to see a shrink.

That ain't an oil problem. That is a case hardening problem where the case depth isn't deep enough and it has worn through and flaked off.

Take a good look at the lobe. That thing is soft. What little case hardening there was is gone. The roller is actually compressing the surface intitially and then it flakes off. Lack of linesor flat spotson the roller will proove this.

I just put in a Woods 7H cam , with all his valves and springs, and here is a place to look for HP or TQ or whatever. Almost for sure the QC is better. And he will talk to you.
The stock cam I took off at 871 miles did not impress me. Was scratching a little and had Mobil1 V-Twin in it. Wonder who makes these cams today.

My stock cams looked like that hen they were replaced at 16k. That doesn't look too bad to me for the mileage and lift on that cam.
