Default EVO won't start when cold.

1996 evo with stock carb but jetted due to SE air cleaner and VH shortshots. When it sits in the garage a couple of days and is completely cold, it won't start without starter fluid. It will bang right off with the fluid, but I have to restart it with fluid a couple of times until it will stay running. I have to keep the enrichner pulled for about 5 minutes. This is even in 50-60 degree weather.

Once it warms up it runs great all day and will start right up if I shut it off in town, etc.

I tried spraying starter fluid around carb base and intake gaskets to see if it would rev up from intake leak but it won't. It has all new gaskets there.

Carb was off and rebuilt last year by a good indy and it worked great until this Spring.

Any ideas? Bike has 20,000 miles, excellent care and shape and no other issues.

Thanks!

PS The gas is fresh - regular gas as manual calls for.

PPS I always shut off the fuel petcock.

I would check the en richener circuit from the bowl to the plunger at the end of the cable for proper operation.

Are you meaning the enrichener working at the carb itself, or the cable adjustment to be sure it's pulling correctly?

Thanks for the answer.

Pull the air cleaner off and look for a steady stream of fuel when you twist the throttle. Anything less than a good shot indicates a accelerater pump issue.
