Just got off a phone call with Sac HD, they are installing cams in my 09 Ultra with 15,000 miles and I don't hot-rod. They say my tensioners need to be replaced. So you never know. I use Aimsoil.

These are what mine looked like when I pulled them out last winter at about 20,000 miles. They didn't look so bad until i got them out and saw the outer one was cracked on the inside all the way down to the base of the material. Glad I caught it when I did. I pulled the cams mainly to replace the cheap inner cam bearings that where in the bike. Mine were identified as the older bearings, as identified by HD, and considering the condition of the bike when I bought it (used) I assumed they had not been changed yet. I was right. Replaced those bearings with Torrington bearings.

My 2000 Ultra made it past 39,000 miles on the OEM cam chain adjusters.

I had a 1550 kit installed and they replaced them at that time and I recently (at 77,000 miles) had the new S/E Hydraulic Cam Adjuster Kit installed.

I guess that I was lucky that the OEM style shoes lasted as long as they did given that so many folks have not been so fortnate.
