Question when is timken conversion required on engine build?

Hi all,
I am researching having my 96 built to a 103 using current 575 redshift cam and having stock heads sent to Dan Baisley. Is a Timken bearing conversion needed on this type of build? Will use a forged piston , possibly roller rockers.

Also, i am running D&D fatcat exhaust- on my "07, is there a performance baffle for it and if so does it compromise low end trq?

Thanks,

Mark

I think scotty said it best in a previous post . needed no recomended yes but i beleive in the newer bikes they have a difffent bearing (a heavy duty bearing you can buy and press right in). so maybe that will work .

If you are only going to a 103, I would take my chances and not go into the bottom end. Yes, some have grenaded, but they are in the minority. Tons of 103's, and 107s running around with the stock crank and bearings.

Now, if your telling me 113, 117, 120, 124, well, it is just good insurance to have the lower end done for the peace of mind.

The newer 08' and up bikes use the new HD INA bearing(steel races, thicker casing). These bikes (so far to date) have shown to be much more durable to high horsepower builds. 03'-07' bikes with the older INA bearing(which had plastic in the bearing races)should be upgraded when doing builds that significantly exceed 100/100 numbers.

on my 06 my mechanic sugested changing the bearing HD screamin eagle makes a sleve for the new timken bearing. he said that was the week point on that year. so were pressing it in on my 107 build. my old one was still in good shape though. the sleve was only $120 plus bearing not a big price for a little reasurance.

Its different if you already got the cases apart, then by all means, either go to the Timken or the SE INA bearings, I just dont see the need to split the cases on a 95 or 103 build just to address those bearings, it is a lot of extra expense and time. A top end build will take about 8 10 hrs. Pulling the engine, splitting the cases and changing the bearings, about 20 -24 hours plus all the extra gaskets.

also the crank problems that you are reading about are all blown out of context... yes there are a few that have went south but not as many as you are lead to beleive by certin few...the reason is they want to sell you their new cranks.... its like look who the reports are coming from.....
