Default 117" 120" or 124" build?

I'm looking for some input on what size is the best bang for the $$$. I currently run a 103" in a '07 dyna that is a solo ride 100% of the time. This summer when the 2011's come out I'm thinking of picking up a '10 or '11 streetglide. That will be the 2-up bike for me and the gf as well as the long haul bike. So the dyna will become the "local" ride and was thinking of going BIG with the motor! All work will be done by Dave at Jd's so I already have the best in the area doing the work, but was wondering what the actual cost differences are between the 3 sizes mentioned and is one more cost effective than the other? The heads on the bike now will not be reused, so new heads will be needed. I'm going to talk with Dave sometime this week about my options, but knowing how he's swamped, I would rather get some info off the forum rather than have him take time away from his customer's builds. Thanks in advance.

Much power to be had with any/all of those displacement levels, set up and tuned correctly.
About $350.00-400.00 between a 117", or 124".

Like Scott said, it shouldn't be much $difference$ between any of those builds. They all require roughly the same machine work, new crank/heads/pistons/cylinders, etc...

How about some aftermarket cases or a 4.250 bore and go even bigger...

That stirs the juices! How much bigger can we go before it gets silly? I have looked at billet motors, but....

The OEM cases work great.
Must've bored 200-250 cases over the years.
Only ones to watch out for are the early 90's OE Evo's.
Hell, they'll come unglued behind the rear tappet block, 90* machined surface, even on some bone-stockers.

Well I got a hold of Dave and he's working on an estimate for me on a 124" build! NCTURBOS, you hear anything from vestor about his 124" build yet? Seems like everyone is waiting on an update and it's killing me to know what the final tune produced!

You are correct, OEM cases are fine for up to 124, but when going to a 4.250 bore, you are stretching the limit, not much left in sealing area for the cylinder base gaskets.
I know of some that seem to be fine but have also talked to many that have sealing issues.

We have bored T/C cases upon request for other shops, that are not equipped to do so, but we sign off at the 4 1/8" spigot bore diameter here, for the same/same reasons Dalton has made mention.
BTW, S&S's dimensions, are a tick larger that the size dictated by Axtell.

Like Scott and Dalton have mentioned 4.125" bore seems to be the reliability limit for sealing OEM cases, but others including T-man have gone 4.250".

Other alternatives would be the Jims 131", R&R stuff, G2 126"/145", etc...
