Default Remapping?

A friend of mine says that when you have some different pipes put on that when the dealer says they have to remap it, all they do is let it idle for 30 sec and charge you for it.
He just put some Rinharts on, was running stock pipes. He says the engine will be just fine. Is this true?
Thanks, Craze
