Default Head mill / machine work

I have seen everything from $70 .hr to $600 /flat for valve job and porting for a set of TC heads. I have also read lengthy articles on how the 07+ heads have decent enough flow characteristics for mild street hop-ups, without the need for additional work.

Can someone in the "know" comment ? If i tear down a new bike to punch it out to 107", I figure I am not going to tear it down again in the near future to do the head work.

My question is, if you're going to have the heads off to swap in pistons and jugs, cams, and rods, why wouldn't you wanna go ahead and put in some better springs, and have the heads mildly port and polished, at minimum ?

Also, would automotive machine shops and speed shops generally do this type of work, or is it better to just crate them up and send to revtech or someone ?

If you have had head work done, I'd like to hear a testimonial on who did it, and the cost please..

Thanks

if you want to do a 107, id recommend doing a kit with completely matched items.

a kit from Head-quarters, T-man or Hillside will put you in the best place.

different cam profiles like different head flow. some respond to bigger valves, some dont.

getting a pre engineered head and cam combo with the proper piston/compression is the way to go.

If the budget is really tight, good results can be had with a set of Bigboyz heads and some mild bolt-in cams.
