Default Lower timing sprocket

I am installing new cams in my 07, 96 and I have a question about the lower timing sprocket. When I slide the lower sprocket over the crank it seems loose. with it fully slid on the crank there is probably 1 - 2 degress of rotation. Is this normal? Will this affect the cam timing?

I believe you are referring to the cam drive sprocket locate on the pinion (crank) shaft? No, not normal; you should not be able to rotated the sprocket on the pinion shaft. If I am understanding your post, you should not try to run like that. Can you post photos?

Should fit snug, no slop or rotation.

Possible gear or shaft wear/damage? How many miles and did you have any issues removing this gear?

Now, when you have the chain on both gears there will be a little play between the two even with the shoe adjusted but the gear should have no play on the shaft.

djl is correct... I wouldn't want to ride it that way.

I shimmed into the flat area of the crank with an .002 feeler gauge as a shim. Tightened it right up.

Exactly what I did. Fired it up tonight. Needless to say I have a permagrin. The 574 fueling cam has an awesome idle. Raining tonight. Won't ride for a while.
