Default A question for engine builders

I am working on an 05 TC88 ,it has .014 runout on the drive side crankshaft, would it be recommended to replace the crankshaft or is this tolerable. Thanks

While that sounds like a lot, I'm not sure if the sprocket shaft is ground concentric with the bearing surface. Revolution performance has a video explaning that the sprocket shaft is not precision machined past the bearing journal, so it may not be an indication of a problem. .014" runout won't affect your primary chain drive. The pinion shaft on the timing side is critical becaurse of the oil pump and runout there indicates a problem.

Your flywheels have sissored.
Either Darkhorse Crankworks, Newton, Wisconsin, if wanting to use those, or find a take-off set that runs true, and have them welded to insure that will not occur again.

Funny then that the MOCO has a procedure on HOW to measure the output side... since you and Brian think it doesn't matter? John at Hobans has stated that the out of round output shaft CAN and DOES affect the primary drive side.... it can destroy the main tranny bearing....

Of course... this depends on HOW the OP measured the shaft... can NOT measure from the center. THAT may be out... but the splines should be perfectly aligned

.014 is crap and needs to be replaced or repaired. Randy at Hyperformance can fix it for you, if in fact it IS out of round at all.

What did you get on the pinion side?

Good catch Ed. If the pinion side is OK, that would lend me to believe the OP measured the threads on the shaft and not the splines.

Agreed.

I wouldn't have even walked away from the bike without measuring the other side.

I didn't say it didn't matter, I said you need to measure where you know you have a precision machined surface, and that the critiacal surface is the pinion shaft. I agree that .014 is pretty suspicious.
