Default Engine flush

Is there a way to flush my motor without taking it out of the frame? I have a 2001 FLHT and one of my tensioners came apart on me. Took the oil pan off and found some fine metal particles in the bottom. Got the oil pan cleaned out but I wonder if any it got into my crank case.

Does oil go from the oil pan to the oil filter before it goes in the motor?

No, oil goes from the tank right to the feed side of the pump, then to the oil filter.

Thanks. Wondering how metal particles go from my cam chest to the oil pan without getting caught by the oil filter.
