Default Cam recommendation needed

Lots of info out here on cams...thought I'd ask the forum your thoughts as I start my reaserch.

I'm looking for your recommendations on the best cams to deliver a good combination of torque and HP. I'm looking for your thoughts on the best cams and potentially tuner for the following set up:

Stock 2012 103 engine
Stage 1 ac (Arlen Ness - big sucker)
V&H Dresser Duals
V&H Hi Output Slip-Ons
FuelPac tuner

Any additional thoughts on having it Dyo'ed???

What kind of riding are you gonna do , Solo, 2 up, local or lot's of touring...where do you want your power ? low end , high rev...
I don't know **** about cams but the ones that do will want to know this...
You could also call Fuel Moto.. they aren't too far from you...

2up and solo...about a 70% - 30% split respectively. If i had to chose...low end off the line is where I'd prefer the power, but a good distribution is always a good thing. I like what I've read about Andrews but I'll let the forum help to direct me. Not familiar with fuel too but I see the referenced ALL THE TIME so I thought that I aught to be open to that as I move forward.

Thanks all!

I agree with Notgrownup!

You'll get everything from soup to nuts on this issue!
I'm my opinion, it depends on how deep your pockets are!
The rest is fairly elementary!

I know my bike is a 96" but the Andrews 26H woke it up so nice...I like the low end grunt...You will get a lot of opinions and sorting them out will be one of the most confusing...Lot's of good infermation though...
What i like the most about my cam is when i am in the NC mountains loaded 2 up and i hit a switcback ..i use to have to downshift to ist gear, now i can leave it in 2nd and hit that throttle and she just screams....The range is so much better... www.fuelmotousa.com call them , they are in Little chute WI. 877-729-4754
They do some good work and are very helpful here also....

Quiet operation good torque with some pull up top. Sounds like what everyone wants.
I had a set of WOOD 555 in my 103 dyna. Felt good on the low end and ok up top too. Almost too much torque on the bottom end. This is with the comp 10.6, stock heads squish at .032 .
6th gear on the highway two up wasnt a problem either. People complain about the noise and wood cams but I experienced non, and this is with stock b lifters.
I would stay under .560 lift. also 235-244 duration would be good for you.

I just installed the S&S 570 Easy Start cams. One reason why I went with them was for the built in compression release during start, Makes a big difference on the starter. I've only got a few miles (50mi) on them so far. Take off torque at easy throttle is a little low, but cruising at 2000-2500rpm and cracking the throttle, HOLD On Tight. I didn't want to go with SE cams cause I wanted to get away from ANY EPA mandated rules and yes I've read where some SE cams are not EPA compliant, I just want one that was designed for the best performance with no gov rules even thought of.

Thanks Man, So far its a 80% like on the Wart Hog stickers. Problem is, We (Barksdale AFB) are going to loss our A10's next year (Military Cuts??) and I'll probably have to transfer to B52's. Gonna need a new theme maybe.

As a cam only upgrade in a 103" touring bike ridden 70% solo and 30% two up I can think of several cams that would work for me. A cam with a relatively early but not too early intake close, 234* to 240* duration and .550"-.570" lift should work well. Woods TW6-6 or 555, Andrews 37 or 54 or S&S570 would all probably deliver the performance you are looking for. I ride similar to you and since most of my riding, like you, is solo, I set my bikes up for the solo ride knowing that they will be a tad soft on the bottom with a passenger and more gear but happy in the mid range and not running out of guts at 4500rpms.

Some are running the SE204 in 103s and are putting up good numbers but the cranking compression gets up over 190psi and tuning and fuel become a challenge which is not something most are prepared and/or willing to deal with.

You will need to 86 the FuelPac and install a "real" fuel management system like the SERT or TTS Mastertune and get the bike on a dyno and tuned.

A cam change is caveman simple and you should consider taking it on as a DIY project.
