I am just getting the bike ready for spring. It is a 2007 night train I thought I would change the oil. Before i start the bike i checked the level to find the oil tank is empty!
When i shut it down for the winter the oil was full, there is no oil leaks under the bike. Where could the oil have gone, can it drain back into the crankcase?
Yes it does tend to drain into the case after long storage. Fire it up to opperating temp and drain for service. Whatever you do dont remove the plug at the bottom of the crank case!

Really?
Seriously?
I ain't kidding. Been riding these machines over 30 years and I never seen that or heard that.

Yes, the oil got past the check valve in the oil pump and found its way to the basement...
Don`t be alarmed if you have a mess when you fire it up, and don`t fill the oil tank. Just make sure there is some oil at the bottom of the tank to start.
thanks for the quick replies, have no idea where the oil went. going to put a liter in the oil tank so it has some oil when i start it up. then see if the return line has oil returning back to the tank. It didnt do this last year, just cant seem to think where it would go, all i could think is one of the o-rings for the oil pump leaked and the oil is somewhere where it shouldnt be now
