Default Lowering my Train

I'm a big guy, weighing in at 270. I love the look of a lowered soft tail, but I need to know how much needed travel will be lost.
If I ride two up, will run into problems bottoming out?
Will lowering "kill" the ride?
Which kit is the best way to go without spending a fortune?
Also, does the front also need to be lowered, or is it just fine at the stock height?
Thanks.
