1987 fxrs-sp ?
I’m looking for some insight please help me if you can. Is this a good year, good model ? Did it come with air forks? Known engine problems ? Did they come with the pro street rear fender ? What was the factory gpaint options. I’m looking at getting one and just looking for some direction
thanks all.

No fancy fenders. They were all the same. Every year fxr is just as good as any other. Realistically, if it's still around, any factory bugs/defects have probably been worked out, anyway. The only issues I can think of are the weak cases from 1990. 1989 and earlier will have a tapered shaft transmission which is not a bad thing - just different. They're all solid bikes, though, and I'd take one from any year.. I have an 84 and a 94. I ride the 84 every day, but I've put a lot into it.
The FXRS-SP was a great model. I bought one new in ‘87. It was my first Harley. I was coming from riding old Triumphs for years, and then had a Yamaha FZ750 sport bike. I was looking to transition from a pure sport bike to a cruiser, and the SP appealed to me because of its sportier suspension. There was a good test ride write up on it in Cycle World or some mainstream cycle magazine that praised its handling characteristics. As I recall the SP had taller shocks and a taller front end with larger diameter fork tubes than the standard FXRS. As I recall the forks were non-adjustable and the forks and shocks were not air. It had a speedo and tach mounted on the bar. It really did handle well with good cornering clearance. I had the bike for about three years with zero issues or problems. As I recall, Harley came out with the FXRS-SP and the Low Rider Custom at the same time. They were upgrade models to the base model FXRS. I would like to get another FXR and would be happy to find an SP model. I look at Craigslist pretty regularly, and have yet to see an SP come up. They must be few and far between or people are hanging on to them.
