IMPORTANT: Motorcycle Cannonball Run bikes stolen!
#21
Tacoma was at the end of the run. If the thieves were smarter, they would have taken them in Daytona beach before they had 4,150 extra miles of wear on them.

Some are beautifully restored. Some are cobbled together just enough to make it. Others didn't make the whole trip.
Here is a link with a picture of the rig that was stolen:

Yeah, but by the time people got to Tacoma, they were tired and guard was down... And that city can be fairly seedy... (no offense to any Tacomites--there are plenty of good people, and servicemembers, there, but I spent a considerable amount of time in Seattle on assignment, and the contrast between SeaTown and TacTown was fairly dramatic...).

First off the owners blew it , somebody always sleeps with the trailer when there's that kinda iron & $$$ involved and secondly it was a professional job, thieves had been watching that and a few others for while probably following the circuit. Truck & trailer will show up but the bikes will never be found in this country again. Sad **** .......

Guy I knew owned a restoration classic car business, in a little Po-Dunk town in Oklahoma. He had several classic Camaro's, Corvette's, some Mopars and Tri-Fives. Thieves had an 18 wheeler car hauler, cut the lock to his gate at 2 am while he was out of town. Po-Dunk deputy pulls up, lights em up and orders them out of the rig. They do not comply. Meanwhile, one of them went several blocks away and lit a building on fire, then left. Deputy gets the call, he isn't sure if the big rig is the owners or not, so he heads to the fire.
All the cars have already been loaded up in the rig. Deputy leaves, and so do the thieves, who were never seen again as far as I know.
I agree on it being someone who knew what they were doing. Not too bright to leave it unattended on the owners part.

As much as I wish it weren't so, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody at the hotel was involved.
Damn shame all around.
