Will head over to hardware store today for an O ring. Great idea and a simple fix.
Thanks!

Remove the cap when the engine is cold and see how easy it pulls out. Little or no resistance means it`s time to replace it.

Based on your statement, I'd start with a new O ring and go from there. If it works, fine, if it doesn't, than it was a cheap experiment and you can look at possibly a new cap. Your oil cap needs to be tight.

Just go get a new cap that fits good. It took several tries for me to get one with an analytical temperature gauge that fit snug. My original cap is still tight and the last one I bought is tight.

Get new oil cap with temp gauge. You can't go wrong.

Don't let the o-ring fall in the oil tank.

They fit even worse.Do the "O" ring thing as suggested here. They are obviously not made properly if they fall out.(mine did). The older Softails had a tite fit.

What I did to my temperature dipstick. Fixed it right up. I used 2 about 1/4 smaller or so ID to the grooves. Fit's like new. I have heard some people with the original receipt will get a new temperature stick do to a recall out there.

I occasionally get an oil 'drool' out of the filler neck if I don't really get my temp gauge dipstick all the way seated. It's not a very snug fit when cold. Guess I'm off to the hardware store for some o-rings.

Thanks for the simple fix.
