No the Harley-Davidson Sportster XLA
OK, so my first photo is definitely not the Harley-Davidson Sportster XLA.
Harley produced thousands of WLA models for the US Government in WWII, but it wasn’t until ’57 that the feds would tap Harley again. This time, they wanted a patrol bike, and the company responded with the Harley-Davidson Sportster XLA. Just 418 were ever built, and Harley would never make another V-Twin bike for the military again. Loyal readers will remember that they sold the MT500, but that was pretty much someone else’s bike built that HD bought the rights to.

I was on Planet Ord from late 1980 to July 1986, Army sent me to the MSF Instructor course around 84-85 and a group of us taught all motorcycle training there. We had a couple different bikes, some were hand me downs from the Rangers which I believe (I could be wrong as it's been a while) were Yamaha 250's and the 7th Division bought 200 new bikes but I can't remember what they were other than 250's. Thanks to my ex this is one of the only pictures of that I have left.

Piece of legend of american motorcycle history
Rarest of them all
I found only one motorcycle in a world
1964 Sportster
XLA
Engine only 418 made
(Military Only)
$50,000 to $100,000 BIKE PRICE ( XLA was sold ONLY to the U.S. Government.)
Harley-Davidson's book The Legend Begins shows that 418 XLAs were produced during 1957, and it is reported that a dozen or so were produced for the Army each year through the early 1960's.
