Default 2003 100th Anniversary Road King VIN

My new love...

Hello all,

I recently purchased my first Harley. Its A 2003 100th Anniversary Road King or so I was told. It has all the 100th Anniversary badges but when I checked the VIN against a VIN decoder web page I noted that where the VIN is supposed to show a 4 indicating 100th Anniversary it instead shows a 1 indicating general issue.

Is my bike mis-badged ? Either way I love the bike, it looks great and sounds amazing I just want to find out more information as to why the VIN doesnt match up to what the good 'ol interweb says it should be.

The bike was financed through the Harley rider to rider program and I was told by Harley Davidson of Fresno that its in tip top shape. Any help would be appreciated.

does the front fender have an emblem on it?

I see the side covers are not striped. anyone could have swapped out the bags and tank. Cripes look ay my 03, it was a cop bike, now it has almost every Anniversary part except the correct front fender ( I like the small decal under the paint rather than the stripes)

In the grand scheme of things the blinged out bikes are not worth any more than a non badged bike.

Ride it, love it, CHECK THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONRS !!!

Welcome to the forum.
Congrats on a real nice looking bike. Even if it turns out to be a clone of the anniversary model, it's not really a big deal. The anniversary bikes are not worth any more than the regular one, value would be based more on condition and mileage.

There is a small badge on the left side of the motor just below the cylinders on all 2003 motors.
They were only use for 2003.

True anniversary models were black and silver. HD since does not put anniversary badges on all the bikes as the problem doing so with the 100th did.

However as others have said that is a great looking machine and a fine addition to the garage. Road King is the King of the road.

My 03 Roadking is Gunmetal Blue. An anniversary color. Pretty sure all 03's are anniversary models. There are different levels tho. Gold key, standard etc. Black and silver was a popular color, I remember seeing all black ones, white ones too.

this. all the 2003's were anniversary bikes. depending on what color you bought, determined the trim/badging. some were decals, some were badges, etc....

When I went to register my 13 FLHTX we had do figure out the proper model, like the 03's, the 13's (and 98's and 08's) were also "Anniversary" years with special this and that on them

Is there a small decal on the tip of the front fender under the clear?

In 03, the "Biker craze" was in high gear with all the "build off" shows, OCC, WCC, etc etc etc, and the economy was in decent shape (but not for long)

People were popping 4th mortgages on their houses to buy "100th Anniversary" bikes as fast as the MoFoCo could make them.

The market was flooded with them, especially when the economy tanked and adjustable rate mortgages were adjusted through the roof.... job losses, foreclosures
, the first things sold were the "toys" and a lot of people took it up the poop shoot when they found out there was nothing special about the blinged out 03's that made them any more "valuable" than any other HD the rest of the yuppie RUB's were dumping on CraigsList.

The other problem with the badged bikes is getting parts for them. HD was not selling parts without proof of ownership, I wanted the console insert and HD would not ship it to the dealer without a police report (accident, stolen) to explain where the OEM part went to. I never had the OEM part so it took a part locate to find a dealer that had one on the shelf and would part with it.

The way has been obsoleting parts lately (the 88TC's are not includes in the factory rebuild program) I hope I never have to try to replace a striped part as I doubt the MoFoCO is going to support the bike for much longer

Nice bike. You have a Road King Classic Seat. Road King Custom front wheel. A regular RK front fender. Just ride.
