Default Stripped Torx bolt removal success

I just wanted to let everyone know that I successfully drilled off the head of the derby cover torx and got the bolt out. [sm=bounceybounce.gif] Thanks again to this forum for saving me money, the second day after I bought my bike I stripped a torx and took into the stealer and they hosed me for 40 bucks just to remove one bolt that took them 5 minutes. Thanks in a large part to this forum I havent taken the bike back to the stealer since my first stripped screw.

Thanks everyone.

After a couple of stripped torx,s,i tossed them and replaced with chrome allen heads of the same size. They look great and are easier to work with .

Well, I'm standing here in the batter's box (so to speak) with my 5K service looming. I intend on doing it myself instead of donating $300 to the dealer. Even though I have a T27, past experience would indicate that I will strip the very last torx bolt in the derby. [:@] Thanks to TC and his directions, removal shouldn't be a problem. But, tell me please - where do you get the chrome allen-head screws to replace the torx and what size might they be?

I'm not sure on the specifics, Jez, but I know that if you go to a place like J&P Cycles, they have all kinds of chrome allen sets and would be able to help you find the specific size you're looking for.

In all fairness to the dealer.... They really didn't make any money off of you. It probably took them longer than 5 minutes AND you must realize that they have HUGE overhead. They have to pay for electricity, wages, health care, pay the guy to look at your problem and write the ticket, et....

Last weekend they diagnosed and repaired an electrical problem on my bike, for free. A fuse was corroded. However, water should not be getting into that fuse box. This is a Harley design screw-up as far as I'm concerned. All of my fuses get wet with each wash. That shouldn't be.

Standard cost of business. All businesses have those costs and most have to eat them because they are the standard cost of business. HD is one of the few companies that pass this cost directly onto the customer, i.e. setup fee, documentation fee, etc. I understand that all businesses are in business to make a profit but sometimes the investment with less cost to the customer is better than charging out the wazoo.

They only charged him $40.00 lol..... What did he expect? Hell, I paid attorneys THOUSANDS for screwing things up and giving bad advice. At least this guy got his bike fixed.
