Yes, the economy does have an impact on both HD and Polaris. Polaris said their slowdown was due to warm weather and the result of the oil bust in the oil producing states.
"To give you some more color on the impact of oil, Polaris ORV retail in oil-producing states and provinces was down about 10% for 2015, while the balance of our North American retail was up mid-single digits. For the fourth quarter oil areas weakened further, down upper teens percent."

If harley and wal mart both go **** up , it probably won't affect me at all. The only business I worry about is mine.

 

At least one of HD's problems is that most of the younger riders I know wouldn't be caught dead on a Harley.
A lot of their sales from 2000 on had to do with cheap money on home refinancing.
The other problem is that the price of most Harleys are not reflecting the cost of the $20.00/Hr floor sweeper, but do reflect the price from allot of expensive marketing guys and executives.
