Somebody paid out the *** for that one. It's the right model to hang onto, but he's gonna have to keep it longer than 20 years.

Funny. CL is the wrong place for that. Some other nut will pay over 20k for a "new" 20 year old bike. Its only original once, they say. Roll this out a real auction, and someone will buy it. I've seen Jeeps that msrp'ed for 6500 in 1982 be sold 30 years later with 500 miles for over 40k.

Someday, maybe.

Who knows. There may very well be a buyer at that price.

If an Evo-era bike is going to be worth big bux, that's the kind of shape it's going to have to be in.

Hey, I still remember 1997. I bought my first new Harley then. Those were the days of 1-2 year deposit only, waiting lists. Five plus thousand dollar "convenience fees', and filthy scumbags buying up brand new bikes just to resell to RUBS at a huge profit. Likely the guy who bought this figured that twenty years later, this would be a 100K bike. But, Harley beefed up production, met demand, and the Evo's became last week's news. Still, I give the guy credit, if you had to pick a bike in 1997 that you would THINK would be the one worth all the cash. A Heritage Springer was probably an excellent choice.

How about the birthdate? Fella would have been 71 years old when he bought it. I think the MSRP of those springers was $17k back then, so the $5000 convenience fee mentioned by bikerlaw would be spot on.
