your history doesn't go back very far...metric came about because of political correctness...wasn't that long ago that japanese bikes were called rice burners.
Do you know that Shovelheads didn't really look like shovels? Maybe you'll become more attuned to the language of motorcyclists with the passing of time.
Actually, they did. If you look at the back end of a shovel tip, it looks very similar to the rocker boxes on a shovel head.

Ya metric is a new PC term. I like Jap. Some people claim it is offensive, and some sites block it. But we can say Brit.
I curious why the batteries are 10mm or why the newer axles are.
Still the bulk is SAE. brakes bolts, axles with thinner belt, and batteries. Not sure I would call that half of the tools size I carry by a long shot.
I am happy saying Jap and German, it is more descrptive.
Back in the pre-internet days, metric cruisers were called "Harley clones" by the motorcycle press. Because some of their advertisers didn't like that term, the term "Cruiser" was born. Now that "Cruiser" is used to describe a type of bike, the term "Metric" is used to describe those made by the Japanese manufacturers. Whether, or not, the MoCo uses metric fasteners is irrelevant.
