Default Need advice for my first HD.

Hello.

I need some help. I've been bitten by the Harley bug after seeing a lovely Iron 883 recently. I've been riding for 18 years, all sorts of of bikes. I currently own a couple of Ducati's and want to add a more gentle ride into the collection.

But, the 883 can't be it. Research is telling me they are terribly made and rust. In fact this morning I had to ask the salesman in two dealers why brand new display bikes were already rusting in the show room. Not sure what the deal is with this model.

So I'm looking for a stripped down, single seat, tank higher than the bars, bike.

Any suggestions? I'm very new to this marque.

Thanks :-)

Welcome and congrats on your first post. I don't know where you live but your very lucky to have two dealers that are open on a Sunday. Can't help you on Harleys rusting on the showroom floor but I predict a lot of feedback coming your way

I have never seen that. Since you're in London I'm assuming the bikes were shipped there. They must have corroded in the Marine environment.
Was this chrome, or bolts that are rusting?

Hello.

Not trolling, genuinely interested. It was the bottom of the frame on them both. I've heard the shipping conditions can have a negative effect. My concern is I live in the U.K. and, well, it's wet here :-) My bikes go out in all weather, but they get liked after and I use plenty of ACF50.

I am tempted by the 48, have a test booked. Heavier bike though (I'm not huge) but look like fun.

Every motorcyclist in London is fully aware of ACF50. Even a DUC will corrode without it!

EDIT~ Since you're used to Ducati, don't be surprised by the performance level of 883cc's. Just think of your Duc with one spark plug wire pulled...

:-) It'll be perfect for the times I want to remain sensible. The Ducs are license losers :-)

You should probably read up on counter steering prior to the purchase...

since you guys drive on the other side of the road I assume you all counter steer opposite of what we do.

Would that make it counter-counter-steering?

It's ok I have done my advanced qualifications. I know about counter (counter) steering :-)

I do wonder if I got the Iron and it started to rust how big a job it would be to strip and powder coat it all. It looks much simpler than my current bikes.
